XPS 8940, problem with RAM slots 2 and 4
Several months ago I updated the memory of my Dell XPS 8940 i9 computer to 64GB (2x32GB). Those sticks are in the white slots. Today I decided to max out the memory and added another 64GB (2x32GB) to the black slots. All memory is identical Corsair Vengenance 3200 DDR4.
When I started my computer the monitor displayed the message there was no HDMI signal from my device. I removed the new memory from the black slots and the computer booted normally. I removed the old memory from the white slots and inserted the new memory. The computer booted normally, so the problem is not with the memory. Mixed and match old and new memory in the white slots. Boots normally. I removed the memory from the white slots and inserted both new and old memory in the black slots. Computer did not boot. Updated firmware. Removed the battery. I've concluded the problem is in the motherboard. I bought this machine and in 2021 or 2022 so out of warranty. I never had any memory in the black slots before today. My guess is it came this way.
Thoughts/Recommendations?

Did you keep the original OEM memory sticks? If yes, can you test them in the black slots?

Is that memory certified for that XPS 8940?
I doubt it.

Chris:
Great idea on using the OEM sticks. As with the Corsair memory they work in the white slots, fail in the black.
Does that point to a motherboard issue?

Fail isn't the right word since it may imply I am getting an error message. The computer never POSTs, then I get the no HDMI signal from your device message.

I think it is faulty black slots on the motherboard.
