XPS 8940, Killer E2600 network card, reset on, upload speeds are horrible

Good morning.  I have had internet issues for quite some time now.  I was suggested to do a network reset through Windows settings and did so.  My internet is hardwired.  I have a gigabit plan and am averaging about 870 download.  But I used to average about 35-40 on my upload.  Right now I am averaging about 5.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Killer E2600 performance suite.  I went into settings and disabled power saving but when I accessed it today both had turned back on my themselves.  I saw to change Speed and Duplex to auto-negotiation and also to try 1.0 Gbps full duplex.  I have tried changing cables from my modem to router and to PC.  No change.  I did not have these issues before the reset.  Any help would certainly be appreciated.  Thank you.

Yes, the slots are different. One is x1 and one is x4 ... but a x1 PCIe card will work in either.

Yes, the TP-Link 2.5gb PCIe NIC should also work, but it costs twice. It will only go faster than 1.0gb (1000mb) if connected to a 2.5gb port on a 2.5gb capable switch or router ... and using a nice CAT-6/CAT-7 cable.

1. I have had internet issues for quite some time now.  I was suggested to do a network reset through Windows settings and did so.  My internet is hardwired. I did not have these issues before the reset.

2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Killer E2600 performance suite.

1. That does not really do anything of any significance. It's just generally broken now.

I have Killer Networks e2400 Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 (built-into my Aurora-R6 MB). Runs Windows-11 now-days and also wired CAT6 ethernet as gigabit. Want me to check something for you?

2. Should have just left all that non-sense uninstalled and just use the Windows-Update drivers.

@Tesla1856

Thanks for responding.

1.  When you say it's broken do you mean my network adapter?  Sure, what can you check for me?

2.  I had the Killer Suite installed when I used the computer but had it turned off.  But I had read about reinstalling drivers so I uninstalled it and Windows Update said there was nothing to update.  I went to the adapter without Killer on the machine and when I clicked to update it said the most up to date driver was on the device.

1. I just mean there is a malfunction somewhere ... that is why you are posting.

2. That sounds about right ... nothing "Killer-of-Networking" installed and just using the drivers Windows-Update tosses you.

Let me grab some screenshots.

Just so you know ... this Alienware Aurora-R6 also has WiFi/Bluetooth but I have all that turned off. I instead prefer the speed and reliability of wired-ethernet.

@Tesla1856

1.  I did try to run the PC on WiFi and I did get the correct upload speeds.

2.  I always have had my Bluetooth turned off and manually turned my Wifi on for testing and then shut it off.  I always prefer to run wired.

I actually gave it a whirl and uninstalled my ethernet card and drivers.  I restarted the PC and it must have recognized the card and when the PC rebooted it was connected to the internet.  I then ran Windows Update and even looked for optional updates.  Nothing under either.  If my card is malfunctioning is it strange that it still downloads but the uploads are affected?  I have looked online to see if anyone local has a card replacement but my best bet seems to be Amazon by tomorrow.

@figureguy ,

I acknowledge all the things you have tried.

Personally, with a machine this old ... if WiFi works I would just use that.

1. If my card is malfunctioning is it strange that it still downloads but the uploads are affected?

1. Agreed, but I've seen stranger things.

2. Just be sure to get a popular, highly-rated one. My whole network now runs from a TP-Link Omada medium-stack so I would likely go with this one TP-Link Gigabit PCIe NIC .

If you want to do that, that will save me some time collecting and posting info.

There was another XPS-8930 or 8940 owner recently posting here. He also could not get some part of the whole thing working and ended up buying a PCIe-NIC (and it worked ... resolved the issue).

@figureguy ,

1. However I read something that said to check Apps and Features.  Well, there it was as an app after uninstalling the program.

2.  I uninstalled it from there and now my PC seems to be working fine.

3. Is that the solution?

1. Yes, that is what I was trying to get you to do ... uninstall ALL "Killer-of-Networking" stuff.

2. Excellent. Good work.

3. Yes.

@Tesla1856 Good morning.  Issue is back again.  I have uninstalled all Killer software and nothing is on there.  I have changed cables and run troubleshooters.  Dell has a page on wired ethernet troubleshooting and I ran every step.  There are supposedly no hardware or software issues.  I uninstalled the adapter and then rebooted the system.  Windows update found the driver and the ethernet started up again.  I'm lost.  I did find a USB-C Dell branded ethernet adapter that I am thinking of picking up.  As opposed to other adapter brands and most pc products in general anything from Dell has always lasted.

@figureguy ,

Even though I love real-wires ... in your circumstance ... I would just use WiFi or get that "real" PCIe-NIC I linked to above.

As far as Troubleshooting what you have, there is this thread (about Killer-of-Networking):

https://www.dell.com/community/en/conversations/xps-desktops/xps-8940-internet-upload-speed-slowed-down-again-after-windows-updates-last-week/699390f039df9d4cdcccb485

But there was another where the guy had to go ahead and install a PCIe-NIC. I can't find (in searching last few months) but it was a XPS-desktop or Alienware-desktop with wired-NIC issue.

@Tesla1856 I would love to add a real card but I opened the machine and don't have any slots on my motherboard.  I wanted to check to be sure.

I will take a look at the thread you referenced.

I suggest you get the XPS-8940 PDF Service-Manual before doing inside your computer.

Also, remember to always "Dissipate the Flea-Power" before even removing the cover.

@Tesla1856 I have opened my computer to add memory and clean regularly.  I also always hold the power button down for about 10 seconds after unplugging to remove static and I use an anti-static wrist strap clipped to the metal vents when I do.

@Tesla1856

I am adding some photos of my system as I have never added a network card.  I have taken them correctly but don't see how to rotate them.  This first one shows the slot above the graphics card. This one above is the slot under my graphics card. This last one shows my profile.  As the card is large if any of the ports above or below will work for the network card is there enough room either above or below the card but above the power?

Good Pics.

Go look at the TP-Link PCIe NIC I linked to above. It's tiny.

It will work in either slot, but I'm liking the top-one (one closer to the CPU and those black-fans).
