XPS 8940, Intel Management Engine Components Installer, critical update
Really confused. Got a message from Dell suggesting I download and install version 2345.5.42.0, A00 of the Intel Management Engine Components Installer. Said CHIPSET DRIVER needed to be installed FIRST. Went D&D page and found a "compatible" chipset driver, dated last year sometime. Installed it anyway. Went back to D&D page and clicked CHECK FOR UPDATES. Nothing was returned. Am I supposed to install the IMECI or not?

There are 2 different drivers for Intel ME being released for the XPS 8940:
Intel-Management-Engine-Components-Installer_F9X98_WIN64_2345.5.42.0_A00.EXE
and Intel-Management-Engine-Components-Installer_WVYM1_WIN64_2345.5.42.0_A00.EXE
Before knowing what affect it does, I would hold off from installing neither drivers if I were you.

FWIW,
Intel-Management-Engine-Components-Installer_F9X98_WIN64_2345.5.42.0_A00.EXE lists Win 10 64-bit and Win 10 32-bit support.
Intel-Management-Engine-Components-Installer_WVYM1_WIN64_2345.5.42.0_A00.EXE doesn't list Win 10 32-bit support.
The file names both include the same IME version number so probably safe to install either one with Win 10 64-bit.

@RoHe
Using Win11. Both appear to be Win10. Does that matter?

They both list Win 11 as being supported. (There is no 32-bit Win 11.)
But oddly, WVYM1, which doesn't support Win 10 32-bit, is a much bigger file. No idea why the size differences.

WVYM1 (475.44 MB)
