XPS 8940 Front Jack not Working for Microphone

Question

Hi, I recently bought a razer blackshark v2 x headset (with a mic) for my pc. I plugged in the headphones into the front audio jack, and found that while the audio works, the mic is not being detected. After this, I also tried using the headphone splitter on the red and green audio ports, which also fail to detect the microphone. I've tested the headphones on another computer, and they work without a problem, and I've also updated all drivers and made sure the PC is up to date. Does anyone know what I can do to solve this problem? Thanks!

When connecting the headset to the front port, did a popup come up for you to select the audio device just plugged in?

If yes, select headset and headset size. The microphone should be recognized and working.

If no, disconnect and reconnect the headset to see if the popup will come up. Otherwise, reinstall the audio driver then reboot the system, see if that may help.

@Chino de Oro​ I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting, but I'm not getting a popup (I'm on windows 11). I've also tried reinstalling the audio driver and rebooting, to no avail. I'm thinking maybe it's a windows 11 issue.

On many Dell systems, Waves Maxx Audio Pro being used to manage Realtek audio as user interface. Check in your system tray to see if Waves Maxx Audio is active. If not, go to Task Manager => Start Up apps to see if it has been disabled, you need to enable it.

Once it's active, open Waves Maxx Audio from system tray and verify under advance tab to check the box: show pop-up dialog when device is connect.

Control Panel > Sound and see screengrab.  Recording tab > Click on item to open 2nd window.  Listen tab > Make sure 'Listen to this device' is checked.
