XPS 8940, does the OS install automatically when a clean drive is installed?

I had a hard drive fail about 6 months into owning this desktop. Dell sent me a new one and all I had to do was install it and reconnect to the web and the OS installed via the internet. I am planning to upgrade to a PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD which Crucial tells me will plug directly into the M2 port on the XPS 8940. My question is on the OS install.  Will it install automatically via the web if I point the boot disk to the new SSD or do I need to have the OS downloaded on a USB or disc prior to installing the new SSD? Thanks in advance!

Between a time consuming OS recovery process and a fresh clean Windows installation, I suggest the latter as you can get it done right at the first time.

For hardware, when installing new Crucial NVMe SSD to your system, remove all other drives and they can be installed back after test run of the Windows on the new drive is acceptable.

For software, get the latest Windows installer create by Windows Creation Tool and performing clean install without any of Dell support apps.
