XPS 8940, dimm slots issue
XPS 8940
i had put in 2 new corsair 16 gig ram sticks and the motherboard is only recognizing both sticks at 8 gig each they had been tested on another XPS 8490 which recognized the ram at 16 gig i am thinking the ram slots are bad i have also done a flas on the bios with the current update wondering if there is anything else that can be done before i decide to get a ew motherboard

@JOcean sorry about the delayed response no i haven't removed the cmos battery that is something to definately look at maybe replace with a new one to be on the safe side right now i have 4 16 gig chips each pair is identical but right now 2 slots are still recognizing them as 8 gig each i do know its not the ram cause i have put it on a different xps8940 system and all 4 chips are recognized as their proper value. in the bios slots 1 and 2 are recognizing 8 gig ram where 3 and 4 are recognizing the full 16 i will have to get a screenshot to verify

Not necessarily bad slots. Have you tried removing the CMOS battery for 15 minutes and then reinstalling?

Are you putting one matched pair in 1st and 3rd slots from CPU and the other matched pair in 2nd and 4th slots from CPU?
If clearing BIOS and installing fresh motherboard battery as @JOcean said, try mixing the pairs. In other words, put a matched pair in 1st and 2nd slots from CPU and the other matched pair in 3rd and 4th slots from CPU...
