XPS 8940, check legitimacy of power supply replacement
Good evening.
I'm looking to replace the 350W PSU that came with my original XSP 8940 Desktop with the 500W variant. I'm aware that there's a limited range of PSU units that are compatible with the 8940. The only luck so far is via eBay. I've found this listing for a Y7R0X 500W Chicony that should suit my needs quite well. However, I don't know how to check if it's a legitimate power supply or not. Is there a way to tell?
The label is pictured and has been attached, the manufacturer and P/N both match but I don't know if that's enough. Can you please give me a second opinion?
Kind regards, Luke G

Your question is tough to answer. Why? Because anyone can print a label and put it on something?
However, Dell in the 8940 FAQ does list these are PSU's it installs in the 8940:
PSU
2VD0G 360w Liteon
5K7J8 500w Delta
99TPH 500w Liteon
Y7R0X 500w Chicony
If the unit for sale is the true original, it could be OK, but I don't know how to verify that with a picture of a label.

Yes, that was my fear. I don't know how you can verify a power supply without having it physically in front of you. Is there a website or store I can buy it from legitimately? I'd prefer to order from Dell directly or a store I can trust more than an eBay listing.

It seems Dell does sell one, https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-500w-power-supply/apd/5k7j8/parts-batteries-upgrades?tfcid=91049735&dgc=opl&srsltid=AfmBOoqDFP9Xd2IhMiOKfKBcphJlcsQU4SYMjCVd5px9kbVsTbG4RC5vPgY
This product is compatible with the following systems:

You probably will have to contact Dell spare parts for UK.

Good morning,
I've tried the link you sent and looked up what parts are for sale for XPS 8940s, but only RAM and SSD upgrades are listed.
Kind regards, Luke G

@Grenf1w
The link I posted works and shows the 500W PSU. This is a "en-us" site for parts. Since you are in the UK, possible your ISP blocks part of the URL or redirects you to the Dell site for your location. They may not have that part of sale, or even another PSU?
I'd call Dell in the UK and check with them?

Did you find a PSU?? I'm also in UK needing a PSU upgrade to upgrade the GPU, surprised my 8940 with a 1660-ti card only has the 360w PSU.. The 1660 is quite lower power 138w max and my i7-10700 CPU is only 65w TDP max.. I'm taking a punt and ordered one off eBay now, similar products from a few sellers from China, waiting delivery..

Keep in mind that Dell OEM video cards are typically designed to use less power than retail versions with the exact same model number.
Dell OEM cards may have only one fan, have fewer/different output ports, etc...
