XPS 8930 + MSI RTX 5060 TRIO WHITE – Not Recommended
Original setup:
CPU: i7‑8700
RAM: 16 GB
Cooling: “K” version heatsink
PSU: 460 W
Upgrade attempt: MSI RTX 5060 TRIO WHITE
🚫 Why This Combo Doesn’t Work Well
Card size: The MSI RTX 5060 8G GAMING TRIO is 30 cm long. It barely fits, and once inserted it’s extremely hard to remove. Mine is now stuck in the slot for unknown reasons.
System freezes: Even after upgrading to a 650 W PSU, random freezes persist. Power alone doesn’t solve the issue.
Clearance issues: The case leaves almost no room for HDMI/DisplayPort cables. You’ll need extension cords just to connect properly.
PSU upgrade headaches: The “K” heatsink blocks the PSU plug, so you must remove it to swap power supplies. Also, the system lacks a slim power cable for the DVD drive.
Power draw: The stock 460 W PSU is borderline acceptable, but realistically this system is better paired with a 3060 or 4060.
Recommendation
If you’re running an XPS 8930, the RTX 5060 TRIO WHITE is too large and power‑hungry for the case and motherboard design. A 3060 or 4060 is a safer, more balanced choice.
Personal Note
I bought the 5060 because of rising GPU prices. For me, this will probably be my last card. Unfortunately, the XPS 8930 just can’t handle it well.

Do you plan to uninstall the gpu? maybe it is just too tightly squeezed in the chassis.

Hi
Perhaps a little tweak ....
The XPS 8930 case is a Mid‑Tower ATX‑style with roughly 356 mm depth, so many user‑tested cards up to around 300 mm long fit without major mods, though some people report needing to tweak or partially bend the front edge of the chassis shroud.
Unfortunately you have...
The XPS 8930 shipped with either a 460 W or 850 W PSU; most consumer units are 460 W, which is borderline or insufficient for a 5060 plus a modern CPU (e.g., i7‑8700/i9‑9900K).
the lower spec 460?
If you upgrade to a good 650 W ATX PSU (standard‑size, 140–150 mm long), the 5060 will run fine in the XPS 8930, the Acer Gadget may not be the optimum.

yes it is a nutshell metal case despite its ostensibly larger dimension when plastic shells wrap around it.
good sharing of practical physical restrictions. given the investment in gpu it may be better to swap to a mid or full tower non dell case. random freeze can be due to power or other causes.
-k cpu cooler may refer to blower type oem cooler

the system lacks a slim power cable for the DVD drive. original 460w oem psu for 8930/8920 should have a slim dvd power connector. OP may be missing it. is it possible that this 460w was a refurnished 460w unit from another model such as XPS 8700 that uses half height dvd thus not needing the slim dvd connector.
The case leaves almost no room for HDMI/DisplayPort cables. not sure if video cables are needed inside the case?

Sorry for the confusion earlier — the forum system stopped me from editing my original post. I’ll try to fix it when editing is allowed. For now, here are the key points:
PCI‑E slot jammed: Can not release it from the slot.
PSU upgrade issue: New power supplies = lack of slim power cable for the DVD drive
Display port clearance: HDMI/DP sockets sit too close to the case edge around it. Cable heads are blocked, and without extension cords the DP port just gives a black screen.

if the card is stuck in slot, can the card be partially loosened from slot. usually the locking latch is at rear of x 16 slot preventing card from complete removal. the latch needs to be bent slightly. if the latch is damaged it could either be ineffective or permanently locked.
if the card is stuck due to other issue, it could not be loosened at all from slot. two different scenario,
most standard psu do not supply slim dvd connector but one can use a sata to slim adapter

Re: HDMI/DP sockets sit too close to the case edge around it
this seems to suggest the card is not installed/aligned straight in case and sags due to possible heavy weight which obscures its IO ports partially. Weight and length of GPU are causing it to sit unevenly in the PCI-E slot upload a pic of rear ports when possible. a mid or end gpu bracket may be needed.

I managed to release and secure the card again (with a click). Thanks everyone for your help — I have heard that the clearance issue with DP/HDMI cable heads is real. I already knew about the slim adapter, but I want to emphasize that this combination is not a comfortable upgrade. Everything feels strained: extension cords = extra cost, adapter = extra cost, PSU = extra cost, and the CPU is trying its freaking best.
This computer belongs to the 2018 era, and GPUs around same generation make it feel much more balanced.
My recommendation: go with a dual‑fan card, and if it doesn’t require a PSU upgrade, that’s even better.

Nice cat frown on Dell XPS. agree this whole generation of Dell desktop chassis is poorly designed for service and upgrade. But I forgive Dell for trying to pack everything in a tight space as a past failure. Hope they learn from their mistake.
PS Dell Chris and Tesla both cat owner would probably give the cat a thumb up

VR instability: Constant lagging and crashing occurs only when using the new card (tested), making VR unusable.

650w PSU is more than enough for 155w GPU card. May be the card is defective?
So I checked bottleneck and the numbers are good unless 1080p is being used, which I doubt.
