XPS 8900, Nvidia GTX 1080, success

After researching around the forums and finding 0 confirmed 1080 in an XPS 8900, I tried it for myself. I installed a Gigabyte 3 fan GTX 1080 (not ti) with minimal modifications. The card fits easily without cutting or modifying the case. I used a longer sata cable to the hard drive as the stock blue one is a bit short. I used a 2 6pin to 1 8pin adapter to power the GPU. I did not change 460W PSU. I was able to uninstall and reinstall drivers with no issue. I turned off secure boot and left the UEFI startup alone, didn't put it into legacy mode, and it works. I upgraded from the stock GTX 745. In gaming the noise is probably 50%, the performace is 2-3x better, and the GPU temp is probably 60% of what it was. For about $120 all in, it was a great boost to my gaming experience!

Glad to hear that. I was looking for a good gpu for upgrade my old beloved XPS 8900 i7 6700k/GTX 960 without replacing the stock PSU. Tried an returned an Asus Dual RTX 3060 because it’s too much for the processor. Some stuttering at 1080p due to CPU bottleneck. So tried an Asus RTX 3050, it was better but had issues with random black screens due to incompatility drivers with mainboard. Returned too. Finally got an Asus TUF GTX 1650 super and zero problems and conflicts with hardware with that card, but it’s some limited. The GTX 1080 looks most powerful and full compatible, I will try it if I find one in a good shape in the second hand market.
