XPS 8700, one 2.5" hard-drive, one M.2 2230/2280 SSD
HI
It seems that the One M. 2 2230/2280 solid-state drive had failure when suddenly seeing the blue screen. I wasn't present when this occurred but all I could do was power off and power back on when PC didn't boot up standing still at manufacture logo. I run pre-boot menu to find error code 2000-0142.
Is there a kit I can purchase to see if I can retrieve any data from the SSD?
About I year a go I had taken the same PC to a computer store who upgraded installing windows when this PC isn't compatible and apparently windows 11 was included to the same key as a one off. Can Dell confirm this?
Thanks,
Sergio

2000-0142 is a failure of a hard drive, not the solid state drive. Yes, there are external SATA enclosures and adapters you can use, assuming the system still recognizes the drive (F2 at powerup), to try recovering data. Example below.
No one can confirm anything else without knowing what system model (Inspiron 3501, etc.) you have.

I made that recommendation based on your having posted in the Inspiron notebook forum. An XPS desktop more likely has a 3.5" hard drive than a 2.5" one, so the hardware will be different.
Run a full system diagnostic and post the current configuration -- is there one M.2 drive and a 3.5" hard drive in the system? And if so, the M.2 SSD is probably the boot drive - but it could also be configured the other way. You'll need to provide more system details for any further answers.

It appears you have both an mSATA SSD (which is OK) and a WD hard drive (which has failed). Chances are the system is set up to use the mSATA drive as a cache for the hard drive.
Bottom line: you need to replace the failed hard drive and reload Windows (and restore your data from whatever backups you have).,

@ejn63 I would of thought that the SSD is for local drive for the OS and profile, and the 4TB HDD is a sperate hard drive for data as it appears this way.

It may be set up that way, but if it's bluescreening on boot with the faulty drive, at least some of the software loading must be from that drive. You can run the disc manager (start-run-diskmgmt.msc) to see what's where.

I have putted the Hard Drive and connected it to another PC finding there's no OS system on the Data Drive that I can see, seeing all files.
I don't understand why the Pre Boot Menu is pointing at Hard Drive failure which isn't the case and also tells me the OS is on the SSD.
Could the system files be corrupted and can I troubleshoot this further to confirm?

Yes, they could be -- but you also have a failing mechanical hard drive as well. If the SSD is original to the system, at 11 years old, consider replacing it as well (assuming you plan to keep the system much longer -- the advent of Windows 11 24H2 means it has reached the end of the Microsoft operating system road, as it and future Windows 11 updates are very much questionable for the system).
