XPS 8700, new PSU?
XPS 8700
Yesterday I bought a new graphic card (AMD Radeon RX6500 XT) to upgrade the original GeForce GTX 645 that came with my DELL XPS 8700 to play CS2. I would like to upgrade the PSU. Which PSU that fits my Dell and is available in stores?
Thank you

I ended up getting this one:
GIGABYTE GP-P650G-US 650 W ATX 12V v2.31 80 PLUS GOLD Certified Active PFC Power Supply
https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=33_1938&item_id=221218
It fits perfectly exactly 14cm long and it works perfectly too.

Lots of threads about new PSUs for XPS 8700, like this one and one. So have a read... You can probably order it on line at the big shopping site, etc.
Just be sure you know the "recommended" PSU size for that Radeon RX6500 XT video card before you buy anything. So check the card manufacturer's specs.

Google says: 450w power supply with a 6-pin PCIe power connector.
Thank you for your help. I read those posts before posting.
I want to understand what I have to look for when choose a PSU for my PC?
So I can go at a local shop and pick one.

it is generally recommended to pick a reputable name brand psu such as Seasonic, Corsair or EVGA. do not get a name you have never heard of before. 450-500w good psu are not expensive these days. Local BestBuy may hav some on sale sometimes. If you want to have a Dell oem there is also the Dell 460W psu for XPS and Aurora etc that has the 6 pin you need. These are standard form factor ATX psu. At this power rating it is more likely to be non-modular like your stock psu. One of the advantage of psu upgrade is to be able to choose a highly efficient psu such as 80 plus plastinum.

Am I wright?
As long as the CPU is the same dimensions as the original, good brand, 500 - 600 Watts, non-modular...it will work?

yes. standard ATX psu have same cross section dimemsion. some are a bit longer than the oem psu but that will still fit 8700.

To get the exact fit as OEM, the PSU must have the dimension depth of 140 mm. Otherwise, it will depress over the housing locking tab and interference with the top I/O panel wirings.
If prefer local pickup, check your area to see if you have access to Micro Center. They carry many good brands, including Corsair, a preferred choice for its affordable and quality.
