XPS 8700, CPU upgrade needed for Windows 11
Looking for a compatible upgrade for an i7-4790 CPU that will allow me to upgrade the Windows 10 OS to Windows 11.

Unfortunately, the XPS 8700 only supports 4th generation processors. Minimum of 8th generation processors are required by Microsoft for officially Win 11 support. There is no compatible upgrade hardware wise.
You still can search for how to install Win 11 on unsupported hardware and testing it on your 8700.

agree w chino. if OP was thinking of keeping the Dell motherboard in 8700 and upgrading only the cpu, it is impossible to upgrade above 4th gen intel cpu on that board due to socket and chipset limitation. It can not support 6th or higher intel cpu. If OP wants to keep the 8700 case (given its limitations), the motherboard (and memory) has to be replaced too. the psu and heatsink cooler may still be reused depending on the new motherboard.
