XPS 8700, best CPU upgrade option?

i have an XPS 8700. the hardware-corner website says my XPS 8700 can use up to Intel Gen4 i5/i7 CPUs, and the specification manual on the dell website apparently confirms this. but the hardware-corner website ONLY mentions two i7 CPUs (i7-4770, i7-4790) and one i5 CPU (i5-4690)

level with me, i want to know, with my motherboard's specifications/limits, what is the ABSOLUTELY highest tier CPU within the i5/i7 CPU family line that will work, if for SOME reason at the time, that i choose to/need to, replace my current i7-4770. im not committing to anything right now, i just want to know the hard upgrade/replacement limits when it comes to my motherboard's specifications for LGA 1150 based intel CPUs

You can see a comparison of the i7-4770 and I7-4790 here

And you can compare benchmarks for XPS 8700 PCs running either -4770 or -4790 here.

Some are running a -4790K in the XPS 8700 but I don't see any options to overclock the CPU in BIOS setup on this PC. Not to mention the -4790K is way more expensive than the -4790.  You can see a comparison of the -4790 and -4790K here.

Is it worth putting any money into this PC?  It can't run Win 11 and support for Win 10 will end in Oct'2025....

Re: the ABSOLUTELY highest tier CPU within the i5/i7 CPU family line that will work

i7-4790K

4790K chips are binned to be the best silicon of 4770

  • after manufacturing some chips will perform better than others.
  • binning: Intel selection process where higher performing chips are designated to be sold as more expensive models (offering higher clock speeds etc.) and less-than-perfect but still fully utilizable chips sold as lower performing processors with lower speeds.
