XPS 730x, full control of AlienFx LED via 5 pin SATA adapter
got a male SATA 5 pin cable
3.3v orange |
blk | 5v red |
blk | 12v yellow |
connected to a cut off old ATX 20 pin (source: dead Dell psu)

it works to replace the 10 pin MCB connector to have full control of AlienFx LED
note this mod does not light up power button and HDD LED on front panel, nor does it provide power to Dell stock fans connected to MCB. the mod assumes both front PCI and CPU fans are upgraded to standard 4 pin fans which are directly connected to motherboard

AlienFx editor in advanced mode
I am running an ASUS motherboard in XPS 730X case.
in this example, when I run XPS thermal monitor app, all LEDs turn blue
when I open Windows Media Player Legacy, all LEDs turn red.
when I switch to other apps, all LEDs automatically reset to default white
