My Studio XPS 8100 Is 15 Years Old Today!

Today, March 10, 2025 my Studio XPS 8100 is 15 years old, and still running great!

The computer was sold to me (for $US 748) with Windows 7 Home Premium, which I eventually upgraded to Windows 7 Professional via Anytime Upgrade. Later, I did clean installs for Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I did not have to pay for any version of Windows after Windows 7 Professional, so I certainly got my money's worth!

My computer still has the original OEM motherboard and the original CPU: an Intel Core i5-750. The rest of the hardware was replaced over the years.

Today, my computer runs Windows 10 Professional like a champ. It's speedy and reliable. This was my third PC from Dell. I eventually had to buy a fourth, since the motherboard and CPU can't run Windows 11. (I bought the XPS 8960.)

When Windows 10 loses support, I plan to replace it with Linux Mint, I'm running Mint now in a VM now, so I can learn how to use it.

Over these 15 years, the Dell Community has been a tremendous source of knowledge and support. I couldn't have my 8100 running for 15 years without the help of everyone out there. Thanks to all!
