Moving XPS 8700 motherboard to Inspiron 3847 case
Board fits case
3847 has two front panel USB cables.
the usb cable with green 2x5 pin connector is too short to reach 8700 board. A M-F usb2.0 extension cable is needed.
the USB cable w black 1x5 pin connector can reach 8700 board. Audio cable too.
8700 uses same half height WLAN mini PCIe card as 3847. I actually used an older Dell laptop miniPCIe WiFi+BT card from a broken E6330. Fits perfectly.
Front panel 6x2 pins of 3847 case fits 8700 board like a glove
3847 psu requires strict adherence to ATX dimension. PSU compartment has two metal shelves to enclose psu. A taller PSU from another Dell desktop would not fit that compartment,

Why do I move?
3847 has an open space chassis layout compared to 8700. Even though metal chassis length may be same front to back, 8700 case has more metal shelf or wall in front whereas 3847 has a more open physical space. If you don’t use hdd, those metal shelf in 8700 front for installing 3.5 hdd are useless. I use a mSATA in 8700 which has small footprint and get rid of SATA cables.
