Migration tool - how to use with one monitor

I have an existing XPS and have purchased a newer one. Buying the tower only to use with my existing monitor. I have read through articles explaining the steps in the migration process and it seems like I need to access both computers throughout the process? How can I go about this if I have only a single monitor?

I do have access to a laptop, can its display be used with one of my towers?

You can connect multiple computers to one monitor using multiple Inputs and cables.

And mostly "migration software" doesn't work very well.

There is a section here in how to migrate your data to a new computer:

What are you trying to migrate to the new PC? You might not be able to migrate the OS and application files, especially if the hardware is very different (eg, different generation CPU).

Why not just copy the folders with your personal files on the existing PC onto an external USB HDD? Then move the monitor and USB HDD to the new PC and copy the folders/files onto the new PC.

A laptop might serve as a monitor for one of the PCs if it has an HDMI-IN port which you'd connect to an HDMI(-OUT) port on one of the PCs.

The referenced article is understandable and makes sense. I have all of my data backed up and am ready to go once the new machine arrives. I have source links for all software that needs to be reinstalled and that will not be an issue.

Not going to bother with the Dell Migration software, doesn't seem to be a need.
