Dell XPS 8960

After experiencing crashes and odd driver issues for a few months, the latest Windows 11 update constantly failing mid process is when I took more serious action. Not knowing about the Intel issue I tried memory and SSD tests thinking they could be the problem. They showed no errors.

After that I tried to "Restart" Windows. It failed multiple times.

I then purchased a new SSD (in order to keep my files) and tried to reload a fresh copy of Windows via the Dell OS Recovery tool. It failed multiple times.

It wasn't until I turned off hyperthreading and started using only 1 core on the processor did Windows finally complete the install.

It seems obvious to me that the processor is the issue.  What are my options?

Edit: The BIOS was updated (2.9.1) a few weeks ago.

Dell XPS 8960:

          I experienced a sudden black screen with white splash pattern from a full color image, then the monitor displaying “No signal”.   It recovered within a couple minutes while I was wondering what to do.

          I had some questions for Dell chat about a Service Advisory “Dell/Alienware Desktop Systems | Intel CPU Instability – BIOS Update” which was unsatisfactory, want to ask here.

          Why is Dell recommending this BIOS update as a recommendation instead of just incorporating it in its update process?

          How long does a BIOS update like this take?

          My 8960 is on a surge protector what happens if the power goes out to the building in the middle of the update.

Did the critical bios update, now most times when I turn on my computer the monitor doesn't start and I have to hard reset. usually works 2nd time, but surely this is not right.

@diggad

Post doesn't belong here probably as it doesn't seem related?

What PC model? XPS or a different one?

What BIOS was installed?

Might be a weak battery on the motherboard, how old is the PC?

Suggest you post in the correct forum with the above data.

@diggad Sorry didn't mean to upset anyone, my computer is a dell XPS 8960 13th gen i9 processor, and it's a little over 18 months old, was just looking for some answers as to why it won't boot properly since the latest bios update, which I was advised to perform by Dell, in an email marked as critical, which I received last week, I'm not a regular on this forum and know very little about computers apart from mine is not working properly and Dell don't seem to want to help because it's out of warranty

@diggad

Didn't upset anyone, I was just gently trying to tell you that the post you made was in the wrong place and lacking information to assists you.

I get that your are frustrated and unhappy with Dell Support, but once out of warranty, unless you are willing to pay, they don't assist.

Jumping into the first Subject here, almost a year old will limit your audience as well.

That is why always start a new Subject... it will go to the top of the list. You 'Title' should be a short statement of your problem and include at the beginning the PC Model, XPS8960, especially if the problem is only related to your model.

Be sure to include necessary information, and in this case, the VERSION of the BIOS you installed, and even 'how' as there are a few ways to do that, via Windows, via a USS drive, or letting MS Update do it. It could make a difference?

What you stated, "most times when I turn on my computer the monitor doesn't start " doesn't really help, what does 'most times' mean? How often, does a reboot always work?

What is the Monitor? What driver does it have?

All these to me are important, Problem could be anything from a driver that doesn't work well with the new BIOS you installed, to even a cable problem? Maybe a battery as well?

More or extra information is better than no information.
