Dell Docking Stn 6000 and Monitor Issue

I have a Dell 6000 docking station, which I have connected to my monitor via the HDMI cable.

I use my laptop (Dell) the monitor works fine no issue but when I connect the Type C to my ACER (PC) the monitor doesn't work (all the other elements such as keyboard and mouse do)? If I disconnect the HDMI from the docking station directly to the PC it works. Sometimes if I plug it back into the docking station the monitor display will work, but on PC start up it shows not connected again.

I have tried the following but none of it is making a difference:

1.   Changing HDMI cable

2.  A different docking station (still a Dell but a different model and a new one)

3. Upgraded the docking station drivers.

All of these have failed to work; I think it is something simple but m out of ideas, please can you help?

Not sure I understand your post, but for starters, does your Acer PC support video output over USB-C, and does the dock support video input over USB-C?

Hi RoHe

Yes the ACER PC supports video I mentioned - Sometimes if I plug it back into the docking station the monitor display will work, but on PC start up it shows not connected again.

I'm not very computer savvy so not sure how to check my Type C to understand exactly the details, can you suggest a way to find out?

The problem is when I use the docking station (Type C connector) on my ACER the monitor screen is just back lit (you can see the cursor moving though) but if I put the docking station on my laptop is shows the desktop straight away?

Can you advise help me please?

Are both PCs running the same version of Windows?

This sounds like it's an issue with the Acer PC.  Maybe you should post this question on their forum..?

Hi,

ACER is running Windows 11; laptop Windows 10. I've posted on the ACER forum earlier; do you have any options to try?

Hi it is a screen display issue: in display settings it is showing 2 monitors but I only have one connected. When I make this the default on restarting the computer it still show the screen! I've tried extended, duplicating screens etc but nothing is working!

Sorry, you're not making it easy for me to follow what you're posting.

You need to be specific.  Which PC is showing 2 monitors?

And I don't understand: "When I make this the default on restarting the computer it still show the screen! " Which PC and what are you making the default?

Hi Ron,

I tend to ramble so sorry, I'll put into bullet points to be more clearer. I have no issue at all with my laptop working, so lets focus on my Desktop PC below:

1. When I start up my PC using the Docking Station the display doesn't work.

2. When I disconnect the HDMI from the Docking Station and insert HDMI directly into the PC it works.

3.  If I then remove the HDMI from PC and place back into the Docking Station the display works.

4.  Although only one monitor is connected, in display settings it states there are 2 monitors attached,

5.  So I use the identify monitors setting is it displays my screen as Monitor 2  (see picture)

6.  When you use identify monitor 1 nothing is shown.

Hope that helps, any help is gratefully received.

@Gaz100 I am just throwing these links out there though they may not help. This one is from the forum and this one is from Acer's site.

Hi @JOcean

I've looked at both links thank you. The first one I'd already checked and my C Type does support video so not an issue from that perspective as I can get it to work after is plugged in the the PC. he second one unfortunately didn't help.

I'm running out of ideas fast.

The latest 6000 docking station driver is installed on the Acer, correct?

Do you have the latest docking station firmware installed?

Are you powering on the dock and HDMI monitor connected to it a few sec before you power the PC on?

Might not be surprising Windows "thinks" there are two displays. One that's connected via the dock and the other one connected directly to PC, even though it's the same monitor, but connected differently.

Hi Ron,

Yes to the latest software from Dell for the 6000. No not powering on the docking station before hand as the power is always on the docking stn (so standby mode) but it does fire up when the PC powers on.

Latest firmware installed on the dock, and latest dock driver on the Acer desktop?

Beyond that, I don't know anything else to suggest...
