What server hardware works best for WSM?
What server hardware works best for WSM?
Currently have a network of <25 Z00D's using a WSM server installed on a Win7 VMware VM. I see behavior where if 3 or more users boot up at the same time, it delays the boottime and stresses the server's virtual resources. Most of the environment is gigethernet, some 10/100 but that is slowly being phased out.
Just was curious as to what would be recommended hardware for handling a load like this robustly. I could give it a spare dual quadcore xeon, but wasn't sure if that would be overkill and unnecessary.
Thanks!

Hello,
please review the WSM Sizing and Planning Guide , page 51ff. for recommendations on sizing a WSM Server.
If the network is the bottleneck and clients are using the OS Image in volatile mode, multicast could be an option to reduce the payload on the wire.
But most of the time the disk subsystem or the memory on the WSM Server is lacking the horsepower to cope with the load.
Note: WSM Sever on Windows 7 is no longer supported from WSM 6.2.0 onwards as listed in the Product Release Notes.
Hope this helps!
