USB Redirection (flash drives, PIN Pads, scanners) not working with Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Session Hosts
First of all, usb redirection (flash drives, PIN Pads, scanners) is working fine:
- From a physical Windows computer to my AVD Session Hosts, so I know my AVD Host Pool RDP settings are correct.
- From my Dell thin clients but when using a Citrix broker.
Also, mapping (not USB redirection) of flash drives does work, but there is a system folder structure shown to users which will cause confusion (I myself deleted the folders that showed up then that rendered the flash drive useless until I formatted it and the folder structure (that's supposed to be hidden) came back and was visible in the AVD session).
My Specs:
Dell Optiplex 3000
Thin OS 10 2505
BIOS 1.29.2
Microsoft AVD Package 3.1.121
32 GB Flash Drive formatted as FAT32
This is what I've tried so far. You can see the only successful thing was disk mapping, but again, that has the issues where it shows a folder structure that's supposed to be hidden.

Screenshots of flashdrive redirecting as expected from a physical workstation (aka fat client):
Screenshots of the flashdrive being mapped via a thin client (Oh yeah, I can't just click into the flash drive and drop a file in it, I have to first go into the da0s1 folder and THEN I can copy files into the flash drive):
These are my Host Pool RDP Properties:
I don't really want to troubleshoot the issues with mapping, I just want to get USB redirection to work, because I need it to work to pass scanners and PIN Pads to my AVD session host.
Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Thank you for the very apt description and details.
It is true that there is not parity in the AVD client Micrsoft provides to non windows device manufacturers.
I would suggest a conversation with your Dell team about what we have done in the T10 stack to overcome USB redirection issues, and what is being offered further in the coming weeks to improve even more.
I would suggest validating under the just released 2508 build and open support cases for specific devices.
While I know it may not be the direct answer you are looking for, there is some very specific work going on to address generic USB redirection issue with AVD and T10 that I cannot publicly disclose, yet :)

@DELL-Scott H Thanks Scott! I do have a support case open right now, and today we tried out Thin OS 10 2508, but unfortunately ran into the same issues. We collected logs of USB redirection behavior and of the mapping behavior. I'll make sure to update this forum when we make progress on this.
Thanks,
