Gemalto MD830B ThinOS Driver Wont Work With Latest Windows Minidriver

Hi Guys

In a bit of a pickle.

Im testing out some smart cards under ThinOS specifically a OMNIKEY 3X21 with a Gemalto MD830B Smart Card.

They are connecting to a Windows Server 2016 VM.

Now if I connect from my laptop using the reader and card im able to login with no issue.

Connect the hardware to the Wyse client and it recognises it and I can authenticate with the card no issues.

Now when I start the connection I cannot for the life of me get the smart card to read the certificates within the RD session.

UNLESS I downgrade the Gemalto Mini Driver on Windows to 10.2 within the VM and then it can connect.

This causes the Windows VM to be unstable after a few logins and causes reboots due to crashing of lsass.exe which dont exist in the 10.7 version.

Anyone know why? The Smart card reader and card seem to be getting passed through fine its just the Minidriver doesnt seem to work on the latest version under ThinOS 8.6.206

Thanks for any input

I checked the release notes for the latest 8.60 release and there is a reference to the Smart Card Driver not working in Windows with the MD830 L3 cards.

I downgraded the ThinOS Firmware to the oldest release of 8.5 and it now works fine.

Does anyone know if theirs any older versions of 8.6 that I can download that arent affected the same way?

We had the same issue, Bought loads of DELL Wyse 5070s and identified that our Oburthur cards would not work our VMWare Horizon environment . I Spoke with a very helpful DELL engineer that advised me to do the following

  1. upgrade one to DELL ThinOS 9.3.1129 (2205)
  2. Configure Gold image on VM to not redirect smartcards
  3. Check Regedit for Smartcard Absent under the following Key
    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\Installer\Features_HorizonAgent\
  4. Amend GPOs to
    1. Do not allow smartcard device redirection - DISABLED
    2. Allow applications access to local smartcard readers - ENABLED
    3. Require an inserted smartcard - DISABLED
    4. Allow smartcard - ENABLED
    5. On Dell thin client under config go to Session settings\Blast session settings
      1. Allow Auto USB Device splitting redirection ON
      2. Incluide Vid/Pid USB Device redirection - Specify the Device in the format vid-XXXX_pid-XXXX
    6. Go to peripheral Management under USB Redirection
      1. vUSB Force Redirect - Enter in this format -0xVIDPID

This should allow you to use it. DELL support are really helpful worst case contact them
