Long PXE booting time with Wyse Z90D7

Hello,

I am trying to understand why my Wyse Z90D7 needs rather exactly 60 seconds to request an IP over DHCP while booting (PXE). It's literaturely waiting for that time in the shown state (It's not a screenshot of my device...).

After that time, everything goes as expected - I get an IP from my DHCP server and TFTP download is also fine.

I sniffed the traffic with wireshark and see that the first IP request from the Wyse is coming after 60 seconds being in the shown state.

BIOS version is 3.0E.

Can please someone give me a hint how I can reduce that waiting time? Thank you!

Best Regards,

Thomas

Txmichael,

You may have down-level firmware and BIOS. Current BIOS version for the 7010 (Z90D7) is 3.0S for Firmware build version 7064. If you want to reduce the boot up time, set the not order to HDD or SATA 0 as the first boot device. If you upgrade the firmware, the following is the default boot order:

  • 1st Boot: SATA 0
  • 2nd Boot: SATA 1
  • 3rd Boot: PXE LAN
  • 4th Boot: ATAPI CD
  • 5th Boot: USB HDD
  • 6th Boot: USB FDC
  • 7th Boot: USB CD-ROM

Are you trying to do a PXE boot ?

Hi Roger,

thanks for the info about outdated BIOS. I will give it a try and report the results.

Yes, I try to do a PXE boot. The order is set correctly: First PXE LAN, then the rest.

Best regards,

Thomas

You may have down-level firmware and BIOS. Current BIOS version for the 7010 (Z90D7) is 3.0S for Firmware build version 7064.

That did the trick. Thanks!

For anybody facing the same problem: I was struggeling to create the USB stick with the new Firmware/BIOS. The stick needed to be formatted with 16k block size (FAT).
