Weird dates in Outlook, only when connecting with PocketCloud
Weird dates in Outlook, only when connecting with PocketCloud
When connecting to my Windows Server 2008 R2 and starting Outlook 2010 SP1, all dates are from 1601-01-01. Some of the dates even show with some asian letters/signs instead of numbers.
Sending a test e-mail from Outlook, when connected with Wyse PocketCloud, shows that the date of the e-mail is several hours ahead of the actual system time of the server.
I've tested Wyse PocketCloud from two separate iPads, as well as other RDP clients, such as 2X. On my own iPad, the incorrect date issue were resolved on its own after about a day. The other iPad I've tested, I've connected with PocketCloud and dates were wrong. Then I connected with 2X and dates were correct. Connecting again with PocketCloud and the dates are still wrong.
I've checked regional settings on the server, and they are all correct.
What does PocketCloud do, since it is able to screw around that much with Outlook (and perhaps also other programs)?

Also verify that under General>International>Calendar you have it set for "Gregorian".

I've disabled Time Zone Redirection temporarily on the server, to test. Will post when I've completed test.
Checked. It was already set to Gregorian.

Doesn't look like disabling the "Allow Time Zone Redirection" policy changed anything. About one in 5 connections had the time/date in Outlook wrong, when connecting from PocketCloud.
Just to verify, I also tested (again) from 2X, and the date/time is always correct when connecting from 2X.
I'm only testing PocketCloud and 2X now. All other RDP clients in the AppStore, have poor interfaces compared to those two. And of those two, PocketCloud has the best interface, however with the major downside of somehow causing weird date/time issues in Outlook.

Also just for the record. Locale is Danish/Denmark.

More research on my part. A colleague mentioned that the entire date/time issue, might be caused by Time Zone Redirection. So if PocketCloud doesn't send correct client timezone information, the server will display wrong dates/times.
I know this feature can be disabled through GPO. That would however make the date/time incorrect if the client is not in the same timezone as the server.

Were demonstrating PocketCloud for a colleague today, and the dates were wrong again. All dates were from the year 1852 or something like that. Now I've logged out and back in and the dates are fine again.
Just for the record. I'm making a SSL VPN connection with Cisco AnyConnect, where I then tunnel the RDP connection through.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with the application. I attempted to reproduce the issue you are having and had no luck.
What versions of PocketCloud and PocketCloud Companion are you using? What version of the iPad are you using when you see the issue and what is the OS version? Are you seeing the same problem connecting via VNC rather than RDP? Is this a automatic or manual connection?
Please let me know.

Both are iPad 1 with iOS 5.0.1. Latest PocketCloud (free) from App Store. No companion or anything like that installed. Plain 2008 R2 server. Not VNC, and not going to test VNC. RDP only. Manual connection. Configured Nickname (Description for the connection), Server Address (private IP) and Domain. Nothing else configured.

Just got the date issue re-created.
Connect with PocketCloud and open Outlook.
An e-mail I've received today, have the date (in Outlook) as 'ma 28-04-1884 11:16'. Same e-mail, when logging in with MSTSC from my desktop computer, is dated 'fr 02-12-2011 14:52'
A slight time difference of 127 years, 8 months, 26 days and 3 hours.
I log out and disconnect PocketCloud, then reconnect and login, and start Outlook.
Same e-mail now have the (almost) correct date and time: 'fr 02-11-2011 14:51'. Only a one minute difference.
Yet one more log out, disconnect and reconnect, start Outlook.
And now the date is 01-01-1601 00:00
In every case, the system time on the Terminal Server (checked in the notification area clock) is set correct. Timezone is set correct.
