PocketCloud equivalent for the desktop?

PocketCloud equivalent for the desktop?

I'm very impressed by PocketCloud and the desktop-side companion that allows you to connect to RDP and VNC without setting up firewall rules. I'd like to be able to connect using other desktops as well, however. Is there an equivalent application that can be used in Windows, Mac, etc. to do this?

I'd also like to know if PocketCloud works when both ends are behind a firewall.

Finally, on a somewhat related note: how exactly does this work? I'm assuming that the client-side companion is somehow brokering a the connection from behind the firewall, but what exactly is being done? SSL tunnel? chownat? And how exactly is Google involved? Are you just using them to grab IPs or is something more being done?

I would like this as well so I can control my mother's computer for her from desktop or mobile!

hi all,

this doesn't help in terms of using the wyse software, but I achieve full desktop remote control using "LogMeIn". there is a free edition for the PC and MAC, and a commercial app for the iPhone/iPad.

you gain remote control of machines via a web browser (IE and Firefox are supported) or using the commercial app on the iPhone/iPad.

no firewall changes are required. the brokering is done via the LogMeIn servers and it establishes a direct point to point UDP tunnel between both endpoints.

I use a combination of the Wyse PocketCloud software and LogMeIn. PocketCloud is a better, faster RDP style client (plus you can use it with VMware View which we are also testing in our labs), and LogMeIn is a great remote access product for everything else.

both products have their advantages which is why I use both.

i use LogMeIn especially for support of friends/relatives. i've configured it up on all of their machines, so when they call I can easily jump on and fix their problems.

i use PocketCloud when remoting into machines at my office, as I prefer its implementation of RDP.

cheers, wizdude.

I've been using LogMeIn for years and I'll vouch for its abilities - I just like alternatives. I didn't get LogMeIn Ignition on my iPhone because I wanted something more flexible and that'd work with environments where installing LogMeIn wasn't an option (ie. at work, where they only allow RDP over a VPN.) I might still pull the trigger, but if I can migrate towards something that uses standard protocols and can establish connections through firewalls where the controlling device can be a phone/PDA/etc OR a desktop, that would be preferred.

Your question: Is there an equivalent application that can be used in Windows, Mac, etc. to do this? Answer: You can try using GoSupportNow remote support tool.
