Feature suggestion: quick connect
Feature suggestion: quick connect
As an IT professional, I am constantly at new client sites where I just need to connect quickly to one or more rdp sessions. The current process of having to add a new connection is rather time consuming. It would be great if there was a way I could just type an IP or server name and immediately connect. I have no need for these connections to be saved after I'm done. Obviously this would be an added feature, having the saved connections is great for my own machines and my usual client locations.
BTW, this is a great product. Keep up the good work!

Hi Tiphipps,
At the client site I am assuming you are within the same network as your device. What is the operating system running on your sites?
Are you using our manual connection? you can create a manual connection using the + sign on top. If you are already using it, In your opinion what part of it is tedious?
Thank you!

Yes, I'm connecting to the same network as the machines for RDP access. Almost always running some version of Windows server. I'm always using RDP for access, not VNC.
Yes, I'm always using the manual connection process.
To initiate a connection to a new server within Pocketcloud:
1) Click Add connection (1 click)
2) Click Manual connection (1 click)
3) Click RDP (1 click)
4) Click in "nickname" field so I can type (1 click)
5) Type Nickname
6) click in Host address field (1 click)
7) Type hostname/IP
8) Click in "username" field (1 click)
9) type username
10) click in "password" field (1 click)
11) type password
12) click in "domain" field (1 click)
13) type domain
14) Click done (1 click)
15) Click on new entry in "manual connections" list (1 click)
16) Click "connect" button (1 click)
So total "clicks" = 11
In comparison, Microsoft's Remote Desktop connection tool for Windows:
1) Immediately start typing server name (no click required. cursor is already in the field waiting for typing)
2) Click "connect" button (1 click)
3) Type domain\username (no click required. cursor is already in the field waiting for typing)
4) click in "password" field (1 click)
5) type password
6) Click "OK" (1 click)
Total clicks in MS client: 3
I completely understand that I'm comparing a "desktop" application (MS Remote Desktop) designed for ONE protocol (RDP) to a mobile application (PocketCloud) designed for multiple protocols (RDP, VNC), but for the most part, I think many of the "shortcuts" in the desktop app could be applied to a mobile app as well. One example would be automatically placing the cursor in a text field when loading a new data entry screen. Another would be providing a simple "quick connect" bar somewhere in the application home screen to allow me to simply type a server name or IP address and click "connect." Then prompt me for login info. For me personally, defaulting to RDP would be great, but I can understand possibly needing to have a radio button or something if someone wanted a "quick connect" to VNC.
I also understand the MS client isn't really "saving" my connection for later use, but it does actually cache the domain\username for me, so that's even more time saving for future connections if I happen to need to reconnect. Also, in this particular usage scenario, I don't necessarily WANT the connection to be "remembered" for me. In many cases, I end up just deleting the "manual connection" entries at the end of my workday as I have no need for them any longer.
Thanks so much for taking the time to evaluate this suggestion. I've tried to provide as much detail as I thought would be pertinent, but if you have other questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them. As I said before, I love this application and the addition of this "quick connect" option would simply be icing on an already great cake in my opinion.
