Wyse Management Suite - Internal vs External ThinOS Devices

Hi,

We are trying to create a WMS infrastructure where we can have a single device go from being an internal device to an external device and receive a different configuration depending upon where its connecting from.  Is this possible with WMS Cloud?  Can it be achieved with WMS private-cloud?

Thank you!

There is not a way to do this directly inside of WMS, but here are a couple of ways I have seen this handled by customers:

  1. in WMS Pro 3.0, leverage a "Select Group" approach
    1. This would provide the user with a choice of configurations when they start, and you could have one defined for "Internal" with your internal broker config, and one for "External" with your external broker config
    2. Page 30 of the admin guide, https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/wyse-wms_administrator-guide10_en-us.pdf
  2. Leverage Split DNS
    1. If you have control over how your devices communicate with your broker, you can leverage name resolution to control behavior
    2. For example
      1. Assuming you are using Citrix, but Horizon would not be much different
      2. If your external Netscaler VIP is "gateway.company.com", you could create an internal DNS zone that resolves "Gateway.company.com" to your storefront VIP instead of your netscaler VIP.  To the device, it will resolve the name using internal DNS to the Storefront, and when the device is external, it will use external DNS to resolve to the gateway

Not exactly a one size fits all, but it is tough to solve this in a policy as there are so many factors involved.

Good luck
