WMS 3.2 -Importing AD groups to apply role based permissions - not working

We have needed to apply role based permissions since we began using WMS and 3.2 seemed to now support this. We  I have used the procedure on page 104 of the 3.2 Administrators guide. i have created an Active Directory group, put a test user in that group and ran thru the procedure. Have applied simple viewer role to the group under the Users>Group Assignment tab, and WMS gives me the messages about it being available in the users area. 

But the user that i put in that group cannot login with AD credentials. I also do not see the user in the Uses tab if its supposed to show up there.  Users that i have put in individually (our only option) still can login just fine with AD credentials. Any one else tried using an AD  group to give WMS access? Am i missing a step?
