Updating BIOS with 3040 and 5070 clients in same group

Hello, I’m brand new to WMS. I created a group and added both 3040 and 5070 thin clients and I’d like to upgrade BIOS, update ThinOS, add packages and some other changes.

I’m wondering if the system will know that it can’t install an incorrect BIOS, such as installing a 3040 BIOS on a 5070? Is the best practice to group these thin clients separately so that all the local thin clients are in a group, then divided into subgroups and all the remote thin clients are in a group, then in subgroups for 3040 and 5070, as well as user, manager, etc.

In the WMS ThinOS 9.x policy, there are separate options to apply BIOS updates for 3040, 5070 and Optiplex 3000 ThinOS models. Also you can add the BIOS update packages for all the models into once policy and you can apply one policy to a group of machines with different models.

Thank you - I’ll create one policy with packages for the different thin client models and see if I can manage to apply them separately or if the systems will know not to try to install incompatible packages.

Can you clarify on this?

My Wyse Management (4.1.1) Studio does not show different options when under the 9.x policy for different model devices.

I have a drop down that allows me to pick one or multiple versions of bios.

Are you stating that you can have 1 policy, enable all the different versions you want for each model. Not tied to a model, then when the update happens it will pick the appropriate version for the hardware model?
