ThinOS 8.6 and other legacy operating systems end of Support in WMS 5.5
Starting with WMS 5.5 (2602) on February 23rd, 2026, the Wyse Management Suite team is ending support for the following operating systems:
ThinOS 8.6
Thin Linux
Linux
Software Thin Client
DHC 1.x
Edge Gateway
Embedded PC
These OS’s have already passed their EoSS (End of Service Support). For more details please refer to the Dell Thin Client Solutions and thin client OS Lifecycle Matrix.
Why does it matter?
If you continue to manage devices on these operating systems, those devices will stop connecting to WMS, will no longer receive policies, updates, or remote actions, and may no longer appear in relevant WMS UI areas.
As part of this upgrade, the system will automatically remove resource files associated with products that have already reached End of Service Support (EoSS).
If any such resources are present - including those related to ThinOS 8.6, Thin Linux, Linux, Software Thin Client, DHC 1.x, Edge Gateway, Embedded PC, or similar product lines - their firmware, applications, BIOS files, OS images, and other related components will be deleted.
What you can do:
Review your environment to ensure that EoSS’d devices are no longer in use.
Customers using WMS Public Cloud with impacted devices should replace or upgrade those devices before the WMS 5.5 release to avoid losing remote management capabilities
If impacted devices must remain managed on WMS, customers may deploy a WMS On Prem server to continue managing them. In this case, WMS must stay on version 5.4 or earlier.
Customers using WMS Private Cloud with impacted devices should also replace or upgrade those devices before updating their local environment to WMS 5.5 to prevent a remote management outage.
Back up any data you may need before proceeding with the upgrade.
Continue with the upgrade to allow the system to automatically clean up unsupported resources.
