Request For Information On Dell Wyse Failover Options
Hey all, I am relatively new to the community forum here and am now in support of environment that uses Dell Wyse Management to maintain a lot of thin clients all over the US. As I am learning the suite, I am trying to gather some information to see what the relevant strategies are for successfully failing over for a DWMS server.
Now my argument after playing around with the suite is that the connection to the Dell Wyse server is more or less a non-contiguous thing. It is done once every so often and configurations are pulled if a Check-in results in "Hey you need these updated packages". The plans for this network however were to have two Dell Wyse Servers.
So first question, is there even replication for that in this software suite? It appears not.
Second question, when you export and import configuration settings, that process is totally manual isn't it?
Third, devices are not included in that configuration export, so would they not need to be completely registered with the alt-server anyways?
So aside from the above questions, do you even need to have a redundant server for if a WMS server goes down? My guess is it is fine if you have backups of that server for total failure, because if it goes offline it will not stop the clients from interacting with our Horizon Connection servers right?
Curious to see what other Dell Wyse Management users think of all this and what is the standard for most people to use. In my mind, it is to use one single server.

I think you hit on a key point, the devices are built to "survive" interruption of communication with its management platform (WMS). Some things to consider.
If you have any further questions I would encourage you to engage your Dell sales team in order to get a CSG Sales engineer to review this with you.
