T50 Ubuntu 10.04.1 VGA problems

T50 Ubuntu 10.04.1 VGA problems

Hi for all,

I hope this may be the right place to do this Question:

I have a couple of WYSE T50 thin clients with Ubuntu 10.04.1.

If I plug the video with DVI Monitor it's works fine, but if i connect in any VGA Monitor (using de Adaptorthat cames with the terminals) then not show any video signal, well, really yes it shows but its unreadable,

I tried to enter to the configuration BIOS and i can see part of menu clearly)

Theres something that i need to do to can use the VGA Monitors?

I test the same things with two T50 with the same OS and differents Monitors DELL, HP, ACER and i still have the trouble.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Regards

Verify that the DVI-VGA adapter you are using is BLACK.

Update: Just flashed the unit withthe latest firmware release. They both are stilll doing the same thing. No video using the supplied DVI to VGA adapter. Tried several screens. DVI output directly works fine.

Unless someone has any ideas i will have to RMA these...

I am having the same issue. I called in to WYSE support. They seemed to think the units were defective.

I had a similar issue. So I'm just sharing my findings in the hope it helps someone.

So to summarize, I was getting a black screen shortly after boot when using the VGA adapter.

Eventually it started working after removing the power cable from the unit, then rebooting a few times.

I used a black and a beige vga to DVI adapter and both worked.

The only other thing I had done before this was hook up a DVI cable directly to the monitor.

It stopped working again when using a beige DVI adapter, so changed to the Black DVI adapter and immediately fixed the problem.

As mentioned, use the Black DVI to VGA adapter.

The beige one I was using caused this problem.

T50 Ubuntu VGA problems

Hi,

the VGA problems have nothing to do with the software or the configuration. And if you have a standard DVI-I/VGA-adapter, the color of the adapter doesn't matter. The problem is, that the pins of the DVI-I connector of the T50 are different to the standard. If you look at the DVI-connector you see on one side one large pin with two pins above and tow pins below. These pins are for VGA. The 4 small ones are called C1-C4 and they are for the signals, the large one is called C5 and it is for the ground.

The ground-pin is the problem, because the T50 don't uses the C5-pin for ground. Instead of this, it uses the pins 2,10,18 and 15 (they all connected to ground). (Look at wikipedia "DVI-I")
A normal DVI-I/VGA-adapter has a connection from the C5-pin on the DVI-side to the pins 6, 7 and 8 on the VGA-side. To use a VGA-Monitor at the T50 you need a different adapter, which has a connection from the pins 2,10,18 and 15 on the DVI-side to the pins 6, 7 and 8 on the VGA-side.

I bought four T50 Wyse-Clients and in the box were this described adapter in black. But these adapter looks exactly like other DVI-I/VGA-adapter I got with PCs. I compared these adapters and I found out the described differents.

The article-no. of this Dell Wyse Adapter is 941480-01L and I found it also in the internet:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wyse-Technology-941480-01L-DVI-to-VGA-Adapter-Black-Refurbished/46645974

I hope these information will help and sorry for the bad English (I'm German)
Best regards
