SUSE Wireless

SUSE Wireless

I am trying to provide a new mobile thin client option for users that have requirements the C10LE cannot meet. We purchased a X50m which is using SUSE Linux and I have been working on its configuration but am having a hard time setting it up the way I want it. I also cannot find much good documentation on it, the Admin guide and INI documents are very limited, and there is almost no Addon information either.

I am trying to have a very simple interface for the users, essentially I would like the devices to boot to a login prompt that the user can use to immediately launch their XenDesktop connections. This part is easy with the appliance mode, I was able to get it to work on a LAN or internet connection(via Access Gateway). The problem is, I need to enable the users to be able to connect to wireless networks that our company does not manage. While I was able to accomplish this by placing ‘Network Connections’ on the Desktop and having the user press Alt+F4 to get to it, it does not provide means to search for broadcasted SSIDs. This means that the user would have to know the WLAN networks SSID and security setting in order to connect. This will not work for us as our users are not technical enough.

Does anyone know of a way to give the users access to a tool(addon) or configuration that will allow for simple single logon to XenDesktop as well as WLAN management with broadcasted SSID auto population?

After doing some research, I think I found where the nm-applet is removed for a low privileged user.

Lines 27-33 of /read-write/mnt/addons/wyse_init/etc/addons.d/WYSE_INIT/default.medium

I cannot edit this as I believe the read-only file system is preventing it. If I could get nm-applet on the panel for thinuser like it is for admin, I believe my problem would be solved. Is there a way for me to edit this?
