C50LE Sporadically Freezing

C50LE Sporadically Freezing

Since upgrading to 11.1.052 (and the 11.1.053 beta), my C50LEs occasionally freeze. By freeze, I mean that they still respond to pings, but that's about it. They show as offline in the WDM and I cannot remote shadow them or reboot them from the WDM. At the terminal, the screen is frozen, displaying the remote desktop it was connected to, but there is no response from the keyboard or mouse. According to VMWare View, the session had ended. Holding down the power button until it powers down, then powering it back up, resolves the problem.

Out of my 30 deployed clients, we have gotten maybe 10 freezes per month since the upgrade, seemingly without pattern. Sometimes we will have one freeze a day for a few days, other times they may all work fine for a week. It is sporadic.

My thin clients are left on indefinitely, often with little to no user interaction (some are used as displays).

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

It was a long shot, but setting the network speed in the INI for the C50LEs did not solve the problem with them freezing.

I decided to convert my C50LEs to C10LEs because I have just had too many issue with the Linux OS. While testing a demo C10LE, it froze, similar to how the C50LEs have been freezing. The technician said that there is a known issue with the C class's ethernet card. Specifically, their network speed auto-detect on gigabit networks. He said that unless the network speed is set to a specific speed, they can become unstable and non-responsive over time. I set the network speed to 100M-F in the INI for the C10LE, and it has not frozen again in the last 2 weeks. Has anyone else has run across this issue? If it is a hardware issue, and not a driver issue, then setting the speed on my C50LEs may resolve my sporadic freezing problem. I just updated the INI and rebooted the unit, I will post the results.

On a side note, even if this resolves this particular issue with the C50LEs, I am going to convert them to Thin OS. This is just the latest in a series problems I've had with them. My V10LEs just work. Thin OS maybe lacking some of the features of Wyse Linux, like PCoIOP, but it seems more refined and stable. Just my 2 cents.
