C50LE Doesn't Show Attached USB Drives

C50LE Doesn't Show Attached USB Drives

I have a SUSE C50LE and two USB drives. One is a 4Gb Kingston flash drive and one is a WD 500Gb MyBook external HDD. The flash is FAT32 formatted and the MyBook is using NTFS. When I attach them, the log says that they've been found and recognized, and /proc/bus/usb/devices lists both of them accurately, but the drives never show up on the filesystem so I can't offer them to my VM connections. If I edit the VM configuration in the Connection Manager and set the "Redirect all USB drives to folders in Share named 'Media'" checkbox on the Drive Mapping tab, the VMs show "Media on (deviceID)" but it's empty. Checking the /media folder locally shows no directories attached, and mount does not show either USB drive mounted anywhere on the tree. What do I need to do to get these drives to show up on the local tree so I can offer them to my VMs?

A note of additional information: I see the devices appear as /dev/usbvirt0 (for the WD) and /dev/usbvirt1 (for the flash) and these devices appear and disappear as the drives are connected and disconnected. I can't try to mount either device on the file tree because I'm not allowed to run sudo, and since they're both character devices, not block devices, I suspect that attempts to mount them would fail anyway. Any ideas?
