Wyse Install Wiping Thumb Drive

Hi Folks,

I am fairly new at installing this software, I am attempting to install BZB0_0858_8192 as well as the 2nd gen compatibility kit to a thin client, however when I I get error 218 (Media validation) and my thumb drive is wiped.

How can I avoid having the drive wiped and passing this error?

Dylan,

I'm not sure why your thumb drive is being wiped, so here are some recommendations:

1- Verify that you are using a thumb drive of a brand other than SanDisk

2- Verify that you are using a 16GB drive minimum

3- Review and follow the instructions in the 2nd Generation Compatibility document before installing the new firmware.

If this doesn't help, please include model of the thin client you are using, as well as capacity of the thumb drives and their make/model information.

Thanks for your response.

This morning I tried a 32GB Monster flash drive and received the same problem.

The client model is a Zx0 (Part: 909586-01L). I am attempting to install the BZB0_0858_8192 image. Each time I have received the below error:

"Error in validating non-PXE file. (Error code: 218) "

Error Stage: Media Validation

Thanks.

Seems like the issue may be that you have a Z90 with an 8GB flash drive and you are trying to install a 16GB image onto it. Please verify if this is the case by looking at the ProductID: You may have a Z90D7 8GBF/2GBR. You may also bring the client up and check with Windows Explorer on the size of your C: drive.

From what I can see, you Z90D7 has a 4GB flash drive installed and you are trying to push an 8GB image to it. That won't work. You can verify the size of your installed flash drive one of several ways:

1- Go to the bubble (I) on the taskbar and see how much flash it's reporting

2- Open file manager and see how what the total size of the drive is reported

3- On the label with the model and Serial number, look next or under the ProductID, you should see something like Z90D7 4GF/2GR, this would tell you that this is a Z90D7 with a 4GB flash drive and 2GB RAM. If this is what you have, you will need to upgrade the FLASH drive on the

Thanks for the replies.

I upgraded the unit with a 32GB internal flash drive.

I believe the image is about 6GB.

As far I I'm aware, currently we only have units with a maximum size of 16GB flash. 32GB flash drives are still being qualified and have not been approved nor released. This may be the cause of the problem. Try using a 16GB flash drive if possible or contact our Technical Support group.

Are you saying the thumb drive I am using to put the OS on with cannot be 32GB or that the flask disk inside the unit cannot be 32GB?

Thanks for the great info!

Do you know why the 32 GB wouldnt work? I understand it has not been approved, is there a hardware block or something on this?

Yes, my reference is about the "INTERNAL" flash drive.

Ah I understand, is there any documentation that I can cite that from to my superiors?

The USB Firmware tool does not have built-in support for that size of flash drive.

None. The only thing I can tell you is that we currently only have 16GB Flash units, we don't sell 32GB so we don't have support for it yet. I take it that these flash drives you bought did not come from Dell Wyse?

Sorry to tag on to this but Im getting the same problem

I have just got a batch of units from an office clearance and looking to reset them so I  can sell on

I have a selection if 4GF/2GR, 8GF/4GR and one 16GMF/2GR but get errors

used a 32gb Mem Stick and a 16Gb PNY stick but still get the same error. I have never used these units before in my life and could do with advice.

Switching to a 16GB drive fixed the issue perfectly.

I suggest maybe trying another brand of 16GB.
