Install WDM 4.8.5 on Win 7 64 bit -- any work-around?

Hi,
I bet this has come up before, but search found nothing specific. Newbie question ... here goes.

I would like to install WDM 4.8.5 Workgroup on a Win 7 Ultimate N, 64 bit. It is running as a VM in VMware envir. Yeah, I know, release notes say the 64 bit Win 7 OS is not supported. For reasons to boring to describe, this is a strong preference for my needs. I do not want to set up a separate Win 2008 R2 64 bit just for this purpose.

Here's what I got:
- Followed all the pre setup steps carefully (IIS, FTP and all that).
- Running setup.exe, not surprisingly, I initially got some warning dialog to effect of "program failed to install".
- Cancelled out, and tried again, and am now getting "WDM does not support this version of the operating system, aborting installation."

Is there any available work-around and/or more detailed instructions on how to get this working in Win 7 64 bit? Any thoughts on places to start trying?
