Dell Wyse 5070 - NO OS, Could not install Thin OS

Hi!

I was reading the google for a whole day and had no success, so I will try to gain some information from here.

Our company had 70 pieces of 3010. Some of them dead under the time, (network issue [dead ethernet socket], video issue [red screen]), we bought a few 3040, which was good, but in some of our custom application we had a "line" on the texts, so we didnt bought more from this model.

Now we bought a used 5070 with Thin OS. I was suprised because I had no success even with finding this kind of thin clients. We bought two of them, one had Thin OS installed works perfectly. But the another 5070 had no OS.

I tried to read everything on the google, so I have this info:
Its possible to install Thin OS on it, because its supported in the matrix.
I need to use USB Imaging tool 3.1.0.
I need to download 8.6 merlin image.
I also read the USB compatibility matrix, so my usb device is good for this project.

I did all the steps, I booted from the usb device but I got error code 313.

I am stuck at this point and have no idea what should I do, I tried with multiple merlin images.

But I cant find any tutorial, video, anything how to do this.

So my question is, did anybody meet with this issue? Any solution?

Lookup the service tag at dell.com/support to determine what operating system it was sold with.

If it was NOT purchased with ThinOS, you CAN install ThinOS 9 using the Wyse USB imaging tool and teh Merlin image.  You will then have to purchase a "ThinOS Activation license" and activate it via Wyse Managenent Suite to be able to use ThinOS since you did not purchase it with device.

Your best course forward is to contact your Dell sales representative to work through this.

Sadly still no success. I checked the bios settings and everything. In the bios I can see there is the 16 GB integrated storage, but for example when I click browse at the UEFI settings it writes "there is no filesystem". on the working machine I can browse the integrated storage...

Today I will try to add an SSD into it and see will it work with external drive or not.

Is there any email address where I can contact with Dell directly?

I was not able to fix this issue since February. I tried many times, read every article on the google... With no success...

Hello,

I recently purchased the same model, Wyse 5070, which did not have any pre-installed operating system. I would like to install ThinOS on it.

I downloaded the package "OS_Merlin_2402_9.5.1079_5070" from Dell’s website and used the Dell Imaging Tool to create a bootable USB. However, when I boot from the USB, I encounter the following error message:

"Error 313, USB key is not configured for proper architecture."

I also updated the BIOS to version 1.11 and later to the latest version 1.34. I searched for an option in the BIOS to select the operating system type, but I could not find anything related to that in either BIOS version.

Could you please advise on how to resolve this issue?

Best regards,

Marek

Same thing for me. I've tested it on all three Wyse 5070 devices without an operating system. I've tried various BIOS updates, USB sticks, Dell USB Imaging Tool versions up to 3.3.0 (since I can't find 3.5.0 anymore), BIOS configurations, BIOS resets, Merlin images, etc.

Dell technical support can't help either.

I've lost 8 hours of work time.

Does anyone have a solution? How can I flash a Merlin image like ThinOS 9.x without the Dell USB Image Tool?

Best regards,
Jens
