XPS One 2720, Windows 11
I ran the compatibility app and it said no for a Dell XPS 2720. Is there any way that some software or firmware/hardware update could be used in order to be able to run Windows 11? I recently updated the 2720 to use SSD disks and it runs GREAT! I hate to have to buy another computer when this one is so nice. The XPS 2720 is used by my wife. MY computer IS compatible and I hate to have the 2 of us using different versions of the OS with all the confusion and feature differences that would cause my wife to endure.

@mtiede Unfortunately the answer is NO. Windows 11 requires a compatible processor and the list is quite restrictive. The oldest Intel processors listed are 8th Gen. Coffee Lake processors (like i7-8700). My XPS 8900 isn't up to running Windows 11 as it only has an i7-6700 Skylake processor. The only Dell XPS desktops that currently meet the processor requirement are the XPS 8930 and XPS 8940 ranges.

@mtiede - You won't be forced to update to Win 11, and Win 10 will still be supported until Oct. 14, 2025.
So there's still a few more years of life in the XPS 2720...

I was aware of that, but as I mentioned, I HATE having my wife and me on different OS versions.

@mtiede As @RoHe said, neither of you need to upgrade to Windows 11. You can both stay on Windows 10 until you eventually replace the XPS 2720.

My processor is "Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770S CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3101 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)". Is this NOW compatible with the Windows 11 minimum specs? Is there NOW an update from 1.2 to 2.0 for this machine?

@mtiede It's only a 4th Gen CPU and it's not on Microsoft's official list of supported CPUs, as of 8-27-21. If you have TPM1.2, Microsoft has said, as of 8-30-21, that's sufficient.
Microsoft is also saying you can't upgrade "unsupported" systems directly from Win 10 to Win 11, but you will be able do a clean install. That means all your apps will have to be reinstalled, and all your files backed up on external media before wiping the HDD and doing a clean install. So find all your product keys and image the HDD with Win 10 and store that image on an external USB drive before upgrading.
And the final catch is that Microsoft is now saying "unsupported" systems won't get "updates". Not clear if that just means no OS updates and/or no security fixes and/or no automatic driver updates, and/or no Windows Defender (Windows Security updates) etc. etc.
I wouldn't be in a rush to put Win 11 on any PC, supported or not, right now. Let the dust settle for a few months and then -maybe- try clean installing Win 11 on the 2720, but with no guarantees that it will run...

Hey I posted this in another discussion in the forum re the same issue, but incase you missed it, I'm posting it here for you all to checkout :
So for all you guys banging your heads against the wall trying to figure out how to upgrade to win11, I'm about to throw you all into a tail spin. Here's what I have:
Dell XPS 8900 Intel i7-6700@3.40Hz
GEFORCE GTX 1060
WDC WDS200T2BOB-00YS70 (2TB SSD)
RAM 24 GB
Ok so this is my system & I like everyone else did the compatibility check because I wanted win 11 & NO JOY, got the same results as all of you... oh well, that's it... I thought LOL. The next day I went in to upgrade what I thought were a few MINOR updates that were listed, wifi adaptor & 2 other's that I didn't really pay to much attention to & started the update process, I'm watching TV & doing other things while this update in in progress , so after about 20 mins I checked & still updating, continued watching TV, checked 40 mins later & still updating, took a phone call, & now it's been almost 1 1/2 hours & the MUTHER F is still updating I'm like WT% is going on with this MF ! So just as I was about to pull the power cord & reboot thinking something was stuck, a message popped up saying
" update completing " & after a few mins it booted to my normal login screen & after login ( I guess u all know where this is going at this point LOL) low & behold...WIN 11 !!!!! I almost fell out my chair LOL. I have no idea how this happen, I changed no settings or rearrange anything, I'm completely @ a lost for words how this happened ,but so far so good, everything transferred over perfectly & running as smooth as ever !! My suggestion to all with similar systems... try it again !!! LOL

Just want to add to this discussion - I am running W11 with NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER on my 2720, and have been since the beginning of testing. Yes the compatibility checker says you can't, however there are several workarounds, including nLIte, allowing you to bypass the TPM 2.0/Processor requirement.
W11 works great on this AIO, with it booting to desktop from the mSATA (another thread I posted about raising that limit and using an mSATA to SATA adapter is live now) in around 10 seconds flat.
I love this machine and have no intention of dumping what is a GREAT PC, just because MS want me to update my perfectly good hardware! Spec below:
Also anyone know what the newest processor the 2720 can handle?
EDIT: Just noticed this thread is for the XPS 2720 not the XPS One 2720! Same applies I guess though!

@AdamElp - XPS 2720 and XPS One 2720 are One and the same.
Glad you're able to run Win 11. Just keep in mind that Dell won't release any new Win 11 drivers for this model, so you'll be entirely dependent on Microsoft to supply new drivers via Windows Update, if any are needed.
Your PC uses the Intel H87 Express Chipset which is compatible with 4th Gen Core CPUs so you probably already have one of the best 4th Gen CPUs for that chipset. There are a couple 4th Gen CPUs that are slightly faster, but BIOS on the XPS 2720 may not be configured to use them so they may not work...

Great thanks @RoHe - I suspected it was one of the top CPUs available for the 2720 (for some werid reason I thought I was on the wrong thread DOH!). It's a truly great machine and flies compared to all my mates 'faster' PCs!
So far W11 has been fine with drivers, and the odd one form the Dell site for W10 has been fine too...
Thanks for your reply

@AdamElp I know this is an old thread but was wondering if you were able to get your cd eject button to work on the touch screen with windows 11. I know these are old machines now but they boot up so quickly with windows 11.

@AdamElp Hello, I recently picked up an XPS One 2720 that was being given away, it's in great shape, runs awesome on windows 10. I just put 1TB msata SSD in, want to use windows 11. Having trouble in windows 11 setup. It gets 77% in, jumps to 79%, restarts. Also should be on latest bios (May 2019 is what I have?). Just wondering your process of getting windows 11 running and what you had to do.
