XPS 8910 - inability to install Win 11 - is there a fix, this is why I bought this desktop for future upgradability.  My company is a big user of Dell desktops/laptops.  Seeing this makes me lose faith in buying a Dell product.

Hi

Upgrading a Dell XPS 8910 to Windows 11 is challenging due to hardware limitations, but there are potential workarounds. Here's what you need to know:

Official Compatibility

The Dell XPS 8910 is not officially compatible with Windows 11 due to its older hardware:
  • It uses 6th generation Intel processors, while Windows 11 requires 8th generation or newer
  • The system's chipset (100 series) is not supported by Windows 11

Potential Workarounds

While not officially supported, you may be able to install Windows 11 using these methods:
  1. Media Creation Tool: Use Microsoft's Media Creation Tool to bypass CPU checks during installation
  2. MOSETUP Method: This unofficial method has been reported to work on some older systems

Important Considerations

Before attempting to upgrade:
  • Backup: Create a full backup of your system.
  • Support: Dell will not provide official support for Windows 11 on this model.
  • Updates: Microsoft may limit future updates for unsupported systems
  • Performance: The system may not perform optimally with Windows 11.

Alternative Options

Instead of upgrading, consider these alternatives:
  1. Continue with Windows 10: It will be supported until 2025
  2. Upgrade hardware: Replace the system with a newer model that supports Windows 11.
Remember, attempting to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware carries risks and may result in an unstable system. Proceed with caution and at your own risk.
