XPS 8900 Upgrade from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro
Do I need to give more info other than the service tag?
Does it make sense to upgrade my desktop now, while I can get Win 10 Pro updates? I know Win 10 support will no longer be available after October 2025. I have been very happy with my system but there are a few things that do not run properly.
TIA

Hi
Microsoft do not offer an upgrade, for free, from W7 pro to W10 pro, so that may be a challenge.
I note that DELL drivers etc for your model are dated upto 2020 for W10, which is a significant time lag.
You could attempt a VIRTUAL upgrade, https://www.virtualbox.org/ inside W7 to test/prove that it can and will be stable prior to an actual install with all the attendant upgrades etc etc.
As it will be virtual you could test W11 perhaps, although that may be beyond the machine's capabilities.

@anne_droid Thank you very much. I will have a look at that. My machine did come with a Windows 10 license, but I only have a Windows 10 recovery DVD. I am trying to run a media creation tool so I can try running a dual boot, but I get an error message that the tool cannot run.

Hi
I found that by using the MS tool, Rufus and Ventoy you get mixed messages.
So try and download the ISO, or try and install whatever Rufus recommends.
Sometimes it;s about Secure Boot or MBR or old versions or who knows what.
Some where on a HDD I have a W7/W10 transitional licence, but currently run TINY11, which seems to be stable.
If in doubt please ask.

The ISO download is no longer available from Microsoft. Would Rufus be helpful with Medi Creation Tool executable file?

@ridgerunner51 I was able to download the media creation tool using and older XPS 9100 machine that's running WIN 10 and use a USB drive to set up win 10 as a dual boot on my machine. My problem, now, is I can't open my Office Home 2010 files. Will I need to re-install Office on the drive containing WIN 10?
