XPS 420/430, running Windows 11 works like a charm!

XPS 430

XPS 430

Hello from Germany!

I got a bunch of "brand new" 2007 XPS 420 and 430 designed and only supported by Dell for Vista and Windows 7 (64 bit).

The goal was to run Windows 11 Pro on those machines. What to do:

- grab any cheap 128  GB SATA SSD and a tray to install
- download Windows 11 Pro ISO from Microsoft using the MediaCreationTool
- use RUFUS to create a bootable USB w/o the Windows 11 Pro limitations
- install Windows 11 Pro to XPS 430
- Windows 11 Pro detects all devices and installs all drivers
- machines with integrated Bluetooth need this driver, install in VISTA SP2 compatibility mode
- use Snappy Driver Installer to grab newer device drivers for your XPS 430

YUP (420):

Summary
Operating System
Windows 11 Home 64-bit

CPU
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 115 °F
Kentsfield 65nm Technology

RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 398MHz (6-6-6-18)

Motherboard
Dell Inc. 0TP406 (CPU)

Graphics
DellSP2008WFP (1680x1050@59Hz)
HP 22xi (1920x1080@60Hz)
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 (EVGA) 106 °F

Storage
465GB Intel Raid 1 Volume (RAID )

Optical Drives
PBDS DVD+-RW DH-16W1S

Audio
Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM)

Overall, a tad sluggish, but fine for light use.  One of few things I can say was money well spent - around $3K in '07

Went through the original graphic card, the P/S, one of CD rom drives (might have been self-inflicted) and a few hard drives.

Funny thing is in the past week the CMOS battery alarms as low voltage.  Think I can cough up 3 bucks for a new one.

Hallo,

mein Dell XPS 420 Q6600 läuft seit 2008 fast jeden Tag.

Hello,
Have an XPS 420 purchased in 2008. Changed the disks to SSD and to Windows 10 a few years ago. Windows will stop updating Windows 10 in October 2025. You who have updated your computer to Windows 11. Does it work well? Updating to Windows 11. Heard there may be problems. There are 5 points that are not compatible in my computer.
They are as follows:

Boot Method,

CPU Compatibility,

Disk Partition Type,

Secure Boot,

TPM Version,

Do you have any suggestions on which method I should use to update to Windows 11?
