XPS 13 9360, no Windows update 1809

Hello there!

I do have two questions regarding my XPS 13 9360 and I hope that someone might help me here. The notebook is nearly one year old and I installed windows 10 from a Microsoft ISO instead of the OEM image on the hard drive. DELL update is also installed and works. Right now Windows Update and DELL Update can't find any newer software for my notebook.

  • Why is the 'new' 1809 update still not offered? DELL lists this computer compatible to the windows update and I can't find any reason in the MS knowledge base, why the update is being held back.
  • Recently, I wondered that there are two entries in the windows apps listing: Dell Update and Dell Update for Windows 10. Is that normal and why is that so?

Thanks for any help,

Sven

Microsoft always deploys new OSes via Windows Update in a phased rollout strategy, i.e. even if your system isn't on an actual blacklist due to a known issue (which also happens), Microsoft doesn't actively push a new OS to the entire world on launch day.  Since Win10 1809 had such a rocky launch, to say the least, Microsoft is doing it slower than most.  In fact, Microsoft only STARTED the phased rollout for 1809 again in mid-January, according to this article.  My XPS 15 9530 only got it yesterday, for example, and I would have been just as happy never to get it because I'm planning to do a clean install when 1903 arrives.  It finally has some features I'm actually interested in (like Windows Sandbox) and I haven't done a clean install in a while.

But if you really want it, you can always download it directly from Microsoft here.  The Media Creation Tool will allow you to either install the update directly on your system or create an ISO.

Thank you for your message. Is the Windows activation completed?

The new update is automated & you will receive a pop up when the update is available.

Have you tried checking the update option manually? Does it show no updates available?

Please check if the versions of Dell Updates are the same.

For my reference, please click on the message tab next to your avatar– click “New Message” & search for my Dell username (Sreejith R) & send a private message with the service tag, registered name & email address.

How to locate the service tag

My understanding of the problem and solution concerning Windows 1809 Update:
if the problem is only related to the 1809 version, this may be very well linked to the Microsoft policy of gradually distributing this version starting from November 2018. There is however a possibility to manually download and get this update installed through the site Microsoft has made specifically available to this purpose, see:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

click on ‘update now’ and follow the instructions (it is rather straightforward)

Concerning the Dell Update application, I have installed on my XPS the Dell-Update-Application_4985D_WIN_3.0.1_A00_01.EXE, which is specific for the newer versions of Windows 10 64 bit, see:
https://www.dell.com/support/home/uk/en/ukbsdt1/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=4985d&oscode=wt64a&productcode=xps-13-9360-laptop&lwp=rt

Yes, the system says 'windows activated'.

Checking manually for windows updates shows nothing.

I am aware that MS is rolling out updates in phases. Final roll-out began at the end of 2018 and now it's March. Just wanted to make sure that everything's fine. Or am I too impatient? ;-)

Concerning the Dell Update: the entry in the start menu references the store app version 3.0.160.0. The second entry in my apps list is version 3.0.1. So, not sure whether it's the same version? I can't remember installing a Dell Update via MS store. So better uninstall both and reinstall the Dell Update from your website?

I'll send you the service tag right away via private message.

Thanks again!

Sven

Hello,

just to know, is DELL 13 XPS 9360 compatible with WIndows Autopilot on Intune?

Thank you.

Best regards,
