World of Dell Update apps
I have an Inspiron 13 5310 with Windows 11.
I've been looking into an issue with Excel (not the topic of this thread) that may be due the need to update the graphics drivers.
So I decided to look into the world of how you can find out what updates are available for your computer. What I found is interesting.
Here's my understanding.
There are the following Dell apps/websites available that provide utilities for updates namely:
- Dell Update
- Support Assist
- https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/product-support/servicetag/
- as well as Intel Driver & Support Assist
I first ran Dell Update and it told me "This system is up to date."
I said ok, but let's see what Support Assist says.. When I ran Support Assist > Get Drivers and Downloads (I entered my tag #) I received the following response:
"An unexpected error occurred
You can keep your computer running at its best by performing the tests below."
I ran all the tests, things were good but got the same result when I tried to Get Driers and Downloads again I received the same response.
So I tried the dell.com/support site. When I tried the Drivers & Downloads> Let Dell automatically find driver updates for you, I received the following response: Driver Detection not available. Please try again later etc...
I thought this ain't right.
Then I got creative and tried the Intel Driver & Support Assistant. It told me driver for the Intel Iris Xe Graphics was available. I downloaded it and installed it. The Device Manager indicates the driver from the Intel site is now installed.
The I looked at the Settings>Windows Update>Update History. It does not show the update from the Intel site.
So I am confused.
There are three mechanisms from Dell. One that gives a result that conflicts with the Intel driver update site. And two that don't work.
Is there anyway to sort this out or do I just poke around these 4 sites/utilities and hope I get the correct answer?
Thanks in advance.

After doing some searching I found a series of steps that supposedly fix the Support Assist problem. I went through all the steps and Support Assist still doesn't scan the drivers.
There are known issues with Support Assist 3.11.4. that mention the issue I am running into. The work around is to reboot and try again - I'm opening a support ticket with Dell.
