Windows updates failing to install on desktop

I am having an issue where Windows updates keep failing to install on my desktop. The update downloads, but during installation it either gets stuck or rolls back after restarting. I have already tried restarting the system and running the built-in update troubleshooter, but the problem is still there. Has anyone faced this before and found a simple fix?

Hi

I would try Belarc Advisor to list any missing HotFixes etc.

Then try https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx for the missing items, and apply them individually.

Please can you confirm the Make Model and OS, along with any configuration details like touch screen, backlit keyboard, SFF or tower etc etc.

What updates are being applied?

@anne_droid Thanks for the suggestion. I checked for missing files and ran the update manually as advised. The update still fails to install after restarting. I’ll keep testing to see if it completes after another attempt.

If you face failing to install windows update on desktop. First start with the built-in troubleshooter, check for sufficient disk space, and run SFC/DISM scans; if those fail, try resetting Windows Update components by clearing the SoftwareDistribution folder and restarting services, or manually download updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog, as common causes are corrupted files, service issues, or full storage.
