windows update firmware
I am waiting a new motherboard from Dell right now. What happened is that there was a firmware update that got installed via windows update, I see it in the Windows Update history. Now there is a newer firmware update in Support Assist, I tried to update it and install fails. I called the tech, they tried install of newer firmware update via Dell update, it failed, and they say I need a new motherboard. This is really bad that windows update AUTO INSTALLED a firmware update. Once windows update installs the firmware it messes up your bios preventing Support Assist from applying any newer firmware updates.
Had I known that this would happen beforehand, I would have turned off driver installation via Windows Update via the policy editor in windows 11 pro. I would advise ANYONE, please turn off the driver updates via Windows Update! Get your firmware from Dell support assist only! Otherwise you will be needing a motherboard replacement.
I have a backup laptop older model 9365, that is out of warranty and I have seen firmware updates in windows update history in this laptop. It most likely has the same problem and can't update firmware through support assist as it would probably fail. So I would assume this laptop's motherboard also would need replacing because of the Windows Update updating the firmware, but it is out of warranty, so sad.
This is a shame that Windows Update and Support Assist conflict with these firmware updates and mess up your motherboard through no fault of your own.
I am crying and so upset over this.

Lately, I have been getting my Bios updates through Windows on the 9365 as well as one other system. Those updates would not install when downloaded and run manually.
I have never used the Dell Support Assist. But the updates have been flawed for about the last year or two.
