Waves MaxxAudio Service - 70-90% of CPU on Windows 11

Waves MaxxAudio Service Application is take 70-90% of CPU upon startup or wake up since I have moved to Windows 11 on my Dell Inspiron 7706. I understand that this also was an issue with Windows 10, but I did not experience it until moving to Windows 11.

I have disabled the application on the Startup menu, but it still happens.  I have also changed the service from "automatic" to "manual" on the services menu.

There is a 2020 discussion for Windows 10 on this site, so this seems to be an old problem, but unresolved.  Is there not an established and working solution out there?

Hi everyone,

Here are a few specific steps to address the high CPU usage by the Waves MaxxAudio Service on Windows 11:

  1. Update the Audio Driver: Dell suggests updating both the Realtek audio driver and the Waves MaxxAudio application from their support site. Make sure to select Windows 11 as your operating system.
  2. Reinstall Waves MaxxAudio: If updating doesn't help, Dell advises uninstalling the current version of Waves MaxxAudio and reinstalling the latest version from the support site according to your device.
  3. Uninstall Waves MaxxAudio:  If none of the steps above help, you may disable or uninstall the application. However, keep in mind that Dell recommends keeping the application enabled, as it allows you to switch between internal speakers and headsets when connected.

Thanks, but that link is the forum post I referred to when I mentioned a "2020 discussion for Windows 10." Notice that even in that discussion, the issue remained unresolved. And for me this began only when I updated to Windows 11. Disabling the app in startup and changing its services to "manual" may have solved it, (not sure yet) but now I don't know whether I have compromised the quality of audio playback on the laptop by doing those two things.

Same situation on my Latitude 5420. The problem started after upgrading to Windows 11. Tried reinstalling all of the related drivers (audio, USB). Seems to be triggered only when my USB headphones or thunderbolt monitor (with speakers) is connected.

I am killing the MaxxAudio process to stop fan noise, but then I cannot switch between headphones and speakers.

Right - my external speakers are connected via docking station via USB. So, I wonder if USB speaker connection one of the keys to the problem. I not going to try to test it though.

So now it seems that I have jack audio after system boot, but after reconnecting it is not found. Waves MaxxAudio process still rocking 60% of the CPU.

Windows 11, Realtek driver 6.0.9261.1_A10, Latitude 5420.

To fix that, you have to uninstall Realtek Audio Driver software from windows control panel and delete the C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\waveapo*** folder containing Waves MaxxAudio file. In Windows Task manager (ctrl+shif+esc) Right click on Waves MaxxAudio Service (In the process tab) and select Open file location. You will see all the EXE file for that driver.

You need to stop all the process running for those to be able to deleted them.

After install the latest driver from Dell support

Good luck

FYI, on my XPS8950, the front audio jack will not function unless Waves is loaded at Startup. Manually loading it afterwards has no effect.

I know this thread is a little old but none of you have found a solution for your situations?  I am running a clean install of Win 11 on an unqualified system.  I don't see the type of activity you folks seem to be seeing.

My audio driver install was new also and I downloaded the driver from Dell.  It seems just after I installed the Realtek driver, the Waves MaxxAudioPro was not yet installed but did show up some time later.

I have to believe some older component is still on your systems which is responsible for the situation.  I do remember seeing something called audiodg.exe causing some of the Processor usage.  But if any of you have checked the Task manager and know exactly what process is running the CPU, please advise.  If you want to shut that process down, in the Task Manager you can right click it and select end task.

I am using the new media player for the music.

Take Care

Update on my situation... It has been happening for about a month or so (since the start of Jan).

Some updates came, I don't remember exactly what because I was pretty occupied by my work... And at some point, I realized that the problem was gone.

So happy ending for me!

Have similar issue on my Precision 7560 on Win 11, but just 10-13% CPU. Still far too much in my opinion.
Do all of you have it connected to a Dockingstation?
