Upgrading to Windows 11 - some of Dell's maintenance won't install
Hi,
Went to refresh my DELL system updates and see that my DELL box won't accept updates if my Windows version went from 10 to 11, at least that is how I interpret their installation failures. One of the fails involved BIOS "Driver version fail!".
Question - If I install a different operating system from the one that came with from Dell, do the Dell maint installs not account for this? If so, does this mean we are tied to only ONE version of Windows, according to Dell?

Always include exact PC model in your posts.
How are you trying to install these updates, using Dell Update/SupportAssist or manually?
If Dell supports the new version of Windows, eg Win 11 22H2, on your specific PC model, you should be able to get drivers and software updates compatible with that version of Windows via Dell Update/SupportAssist.
You can also download updates manually on the Support page for your PC model by entering the Service Tag (don't post it here) and selecting the correct version of Windows before downloading any updates.
There have been some recent BIOS update issues (eg, XPS 8930 BIOS 1.1.27) that may cause that error. So it's important to know your PC model and how you're trying to install them. For BIOS updates, it's safer to install them via the Flash Update option available on the F12 menu at boot, totally outside Windows, using a USB stick.
And if Dell doesn't support your PC model for some new version of Windows, that doesn't mean the new version won't work, but you'll have to depend on Microsoft's Windows Update to install any driver updates you may need.
