Reinstall Windows XP MCE 2005 SP2 on Dell XPS 400

Hello, this is my first forum post here so sorry if I miss anything (TLDR at the bottom)

This is driving my crazy but I’ve literally tried almost everything. After upgrading(more so fresh install) Windows 10 on this computer, I wanted to reinstall XP, mostly for compatibility. So I formatted the drive (with some USB bootable tool) and put the (dell provided) reinstall disk in (orange, P/N MW892), but it doesn’t boot. So I try it on a different (brand new) computer but it still doesn’t boot. I only had 1 other computer with a disc drive, that being an 2014 HP computer, but (for some reason) Windows 10 puts system files on a hard drive that is just plugged in, so I reinstalled windows on that computer and put the hard drive from the Dell into it, formatted it there, and tried to use Oracle’s VirtualBox to install XP on the hard drive, to no avail. After putting it in the original computer, I make a copy of the the cd on a usb and use Rufus to make it bootable, and the computer boots from it. But since the XP installer doesn’t support SATA drives, I found out how to slipstream some SATA drivers for my motherboard. After doing that twice (and using WinToFlash instead of Rufus) I decided to put the copy of the CD onto the hard drive (not in a folder, yet to do that) and it got through the DOS part of setup (booted off of the Resource CD because it can see the drive, going into I386> “WINNT /t:D:” D being the hard drive), but now it won’t recognize the 2nd part as bootable. So now I’m kinda stuck.

Any help would be appreciated!

TLDR: dell xps 400 doesn’t want to install windows xp no matter how hard I try to will it into existence

Update: I disabled the primary CD-ROM drive and the cd boots from the DVD drive. I have no clue why the first drive couldn’t read the cd (I installed XP Pro x64 and the drive could read any other cd) but I hope anyone having this problem can find this solution.

If you performed a repair installation of Windows XP but did not uninstall any later version of Internet Explorer, Internet Explorer will not run. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps.

Verify the version of Windows XP that is installed on the computer
Click Start, click Run, type Winver.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

In the About Windows dialog box, verify the version of Windows XP that is installed on the computer.

If Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) is installed on the computer
If Windows XP SP2 or Windows XP SP3 is installed on the computer, uninstall the later version of Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.

In the Currently installed programs list, click Windows Internet Explorer 7, or click Windows Internet Explorer 8, and then click
Remove.

If Internet Explorer is not listed in the Currently installed programs list, follow these steps:

Restart the computer in the Recovery Console. For more information about how to use the Recovery Console, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

307654 How to install and use the Recovery Console in Windows XP

Type the following commands, and then press ENTER after each command:

For Windows Internet Explorer 8

CD ie8\spuninst
batch Spuninst.txt
For Windows Internet Explorer 7

CD ie7\spuninst
batch Spuninst.txt

This may help you,
