I'm attending a university now and a girl on the floor above me is having the same problem ... could this be something wrong with the university's network? Thanks for any help you can offer!

While the modem may be connected, there may still be a problem involving your ISP. Have you contacted them?

If you're not using dialup like the original poster is, you don't have the same problem.
If several people on your university's network are experiencing this problem, you should contact the university's Help Desk for assistance first.
If you are unable to resolve the problem with the help of the university's help desk, please start a new thread, and describe your problem more fully.

I'm having the exact same problem ... when I try to open Internet Explorer I get a "The page cannot be displayed" message no matter what site I'm trying to visit, but through another browser (right now I have to use the MSN browser) I can visit whatever site I want to.
Also, when I try to send outgoing messages in Outlook Express, I get the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F.
Any suggestions? Please help! Thank you so much!

* Click Start-Control Panel
* On the left, click "Switch to Classic View"
* Click Internet Options
* Click the "Delete Files" button, insert a check, click OK
* Click the "Clear History" button, click Yes or OK
* Under Home Page, change it to http://www.google.com or whatever you like
* Click the "Use Current" button
* Click Apply
* Click the Advanced tab
* Click the button "Restore Defaults"
* Click Apply
* Click the Programs tab
* Check the box "IE should check to see whether it is the default browser"
* Click Apply and/or OK. Close all boxes
Try to reconnect. What happens?
